Mesa builds developer tools to dramatically increase the productivity of large engineering teams.
Software quality and the pace of development are civilizational bottlenecks. Your bank, school, space program, and favorite cereal brand rely on software to function but most software development projects are behind schedule, over budget, and result in bad products.
Despite the hype, AI has not yet delivered meaningful productivity gains for large software engineering teams. The field of software engineering is in desperate need for a new generation of tooling that goes beyond the shallow automation of tacked-on LLMs and provides rigorous, purpose-built products for professionals.
Mesa’s mission is to build that tooling and unlock a world of fast, high-quality software for every business and institution.
We are a tight-knit team that focuses on output rather than process. We have a core product with a lot of traction and every engineer is expected to interact with customers, perform maintenance work, and proactively improve the product.
We do not have PMs and every engineer is a Product Engineer, regardless of specialization. We expect engineers to work autonomously to explore and validate ideas or problems that may serve the mission.
Beyond the work to service our existing product and customers, the role of an engineer looks closer to that of a researcher. If you believe a feature, new product, new open-source library, or some other exploration will push the company forward you are empowered to pursue the idea and validate it and then, through your validation, fold it into the core product.
We believe in avoiding overhead, maximizing autonomy, maximizing ownership, and focusing on quality. Our only requirement is that everyone works in-person, in our office in downtown San Francisco.
